Week 4- Five Digital Marketing Myths
When it comes to Digital Marketing, there are a lot of things that need to be done in order to be successful and relevant, but there are also things that should not be followed due to the fact that they are not true. This weeks blog will delve into five myths that should not be bought in to. The five myths are: that digital marketing is only for big business, results are instant, more traffic equals more money, email marketing is spam, and the business should be on every social media platform.
The first myth is that Digital Marketing is only for big business. This is wrong because anyone can use the internet to promote a good or service. Although it may be easier for a larger company to promote themselves, that doesn't mean that a small business can't or shouldn't promote their business. Also with being a smaller business, the funding for their marketing campaign won't be as large as a bigger business, but progressively as the business grows so should their budget for marketing.
The next myth is that results should be instant. Results will almost never be instantaneous unless your company is one like Apple or Nike that has such a recognizable brand or logo. Especially if you have a small business it will start with locals looking for whatever product or service you have, then it will progressively grow. Your business will not be an overnight sensation, it will take time, but it will be worth it in the end.
The third myth is more traffic equals more money. The reason this statement is false is that people could have just been browsing and came across your business page on accident and really don't want anything to do with your business. A page for your business can have millions of visits and interactions but that doesn't mean anything unless your products or services are being purchased and your business is growing.
Another myth is that email marketing is spam. Emailing is a great way for a business to reach out to potential customers or customers that have already expressed interest in the business. This form of Digital Marketing helps give customers information of your business as well as promotions and other forms of deals. Emails unfortunately have this negative stereotype that needs to be changed.
The final myth is that your business needs to be on every form of social media. This is a big lie, although it could be helpful being on all forms, it also is very inconvenient and just makes people lose interest. If your business is on a few platforms that shows that the business is progressive and somewhat hip to the new social media trends. So being part of the Digital Marketing world, businesses should be on different forms of social media, but it is not imperative that they be on all of the different forms.
These myths within Digital Marketing need to be addressed and noticed so that businesses aren't buying in to them. If they are seen by a business, then that business can optimize their marketing campaign and get the most out of what they are putting in to their marketing.
